Meta Invites Online Classified Ad Services To List On Marketplace

Meta has launched the Facebook Marketplace Partner Program, which invites online classified ad service providers to list their consumer-to-consumer inventory on Facebook Marketplace across the European Economic Area (EEA).

The programme – launched on Thursday 13 February – will allow eligible third-party partners to access Facebook users across the EEA through a new distribution channel.

This will help them to increase visibility and drive traffic to their platforms and sellers, as well as giving them a broader set of consumers to tap.

Third-party partner listings will appear on the Facebook Marketplace feed and search alongside other third-party inventory and Facebook user listings.

Buyers can complete all purchases and continue to browse on the partner’s website.

Following on from a pilot programme with eBay, launched in July, the programme is a direct response to the European Commission’s recent decision regarding Facebook Marketplace.

In November, the Commission fined Meta €797.72 million for breaching EU antitrust rules by ‘tying its online classified ads service Facebook Marketplace to its personal social network Facebook and by imposing unfair trading conditions on other classified ad service providers’.

With this new service, Meta believes that the programme will benefit partners in the online marketplace ecosystem and European consumers, and it demonstrates the company’s continued efforts to work with regulators.

Eligible online classified ad services with consumer-to-consumer listings in the EEA can submit their interest today by visiting the service’s website.
