Multinational consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G) has announced that more than 3,500 products in its portfolio now feature 'SmartLabel' support.
SmartLabel is an online and mobile platform that provides consumers with detailed information such as product ingredients, usage instructions, certifications and endorsements.
Clear & Reliable
P&G, with manufacturing facilities in Kildare and Tipperary, are introducing SmartLabel as part of its transparency goals, announced in the recent Ambition 2030, to help people make informed decisions by providing ingredient information in a clear, reliable and accessible way.
Kathy Fish, chief technology officer, Procter & Gamble, said, “Using SmartLabel to share our products’ ingredients reinforces P&G’s commitment to transparency, and is one way we are holding ourselves accountable to the transparency goals we outlined in Ambition 2030.
“We know people care about what goes into the products they use every day, and we want consumers to be informed and confident in their choice to place P&G products in their baskets.”
Information Hungry
Now P&G’s popular products like Gillette, Head & Shoulders and Fabreeze will have information available through SmartLabel’s website as well as on Android and iOS devices.
The move comes in response to a research project carried out by P&G which revealed that consumers are seeking more information about product ingredients than in the past.
Some 80% believe transparency is “very important or important” when shopping for personal care or beauty products.
Earlier in May, P&G announced that its profits more than doubled at its main Irish subsidiary, which showed a pre-tax profit of €25.5 million in the 12 months to the end of June 2017, compared to €11.7 million a year earlier.
