National Dairy Council Announces Return of Moo Crew Initiative

The National Dairy Council has announced the return of its 'Moo Crew' initiative, which is open again to pupils and teachers this year. The educational scheme aims to teach 3rd to 6th class children about the importance of including dairy products in your diet, in an enjoyable and interactive way.

The initiative’s website, www.moocrew.ie, received around 3,200 visitors and 33,000 page views in 2013 and includes features such as ‘Milly’s blog’, where Moo Crew mascot Milly the cow shares her healthy recipes and exercise tips.

Children also have the opportunity to enter the class-based competition, which concludes during National Dairy Week in May.

Darren O’Neill, a qualified primary teacher and Ireland’s Olympic boxing team captain, returns as a Moo Crew ambassador. He commented: “The trends in relation to inadequate calcium levels amongst Irish school children are worrying, especially when children in these age groups are at such an important phase of bone growth and development.

"Moo Crew should be fun at school - but I hope it will also help to extend some of the messages and positive habits home to parents and families, so that we all make more clever choices about what we eat or drink.”
