Today is World School Milk Day according to the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organisation. The National Dairy Council took the designated day as an opportunity to promote school milk and dairy education at the NDC Dome at the National Ploughing Championships.
NDC nutritionist Caroline O'Donovan said at the event, "Milk provides a package of nutrients such as calcium, protein, iodine, vitamin B2 and vitamin B12. So, not only is milk an affordable source of a range of important nutrients – but the versatility of milk and milk products makes them great value for money too, as they are perfect for use in a wide range of cooked and baked dishes and across many meal time and snacking occasions."
The Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine, Simon Coveney, T.D. and Irish Olympic boxer Darren O'Neill met with children from 3rd class from Rath National School, County Laois to celebrate the important day.
