Two Cold Stores Issued Orders From FSAI In February

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has reported five Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order served on food businesses for breaches of food safety legislation, including two on cold stores.

VF Foods in Finglas, Dublin 11 was issued a Closure Order under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010. Arcross Foods in Blackrock, Louth was served a Prohibition Order under the FSAI Act 1998. The other orders were served to four restaurants in Cork and Dublin.

Dr Bernard Hegarty, Director of Service Contracts, FSAI commented on the closures, saying that there is no excuse for food businesses to put consumers' health at risk through negligent practices.

"The legal onus is on food businesses to ensure at all times that the food they serve is safe to eat. This requires ongoing compliance with food safety and hygiene legislation and there is absolutely no excuse for negligent practices. All food businesses must have a food safety management system in place that is consulted and updated on a regular basis, in order to avoid non-compliance issues and breaches of food safety legislation," he stated.
